Fall And All It Brings

Early Fall Forest Mostly Green with beginning of yellow leaves

For me fall is the time to make changes to my routine and set new goals for the next year. I realize this is something generally done for the new year but fall is a quieter time. The noise of the holidays and  all of the things that must get done  overshadow the need to reflect on my year and look ahead and make new plans.

Fall is the time to get outside to take in the autumn colours & crisp air. As the leaves begin to change I make a point through out the season to notice the leaves on the trees and listen to the sound they make as the wind blows through them. For soon they will be bare.  It is said so often this time of year on a nice day-“There aren’t many of this kind of day left, enjoy it while you can.” A reminder to be present in the moment so it is not wasted on busy.

For our family  fall also means many trips to our cabin in the UP. We have a difficult time getting there the rest of the year but do our best to go as much as possible during this season.  When we first arrive it takes a moment to adjust to the complete silence. The forest is so quiet ears ring trying to hear any sound. The fire in the wood burning stove is welcome after a brisk walk in the forest.  I try to save a book I have wanted to read for our time at our cozy little cabin. I also have word search books and magazines that have yet to be read.  Walks on the property with the smell of the fall leaves and amazing colors of the UP forest that surrounds our little log cabin.

As I have mentioned in earlier posts, the colder temperatures and shorter days means more baking and heartier meals. You can see my latest fall recipe for Cozy Chili . It is a family favorite!

What does fall mean for you? Leave a comment and let me know. Enjoy this season friends it can be beautiful and peaceful if we let it.

The joy of the Lord is my strength. Nehemiah 8:10
